Rainy Days and Sundays…and Golf!

on June 24, 2012

Today, was a pretty good day.  I played in a breast cancer fundraiser golf tournament up at Tangle Creek in Barrie.  I played with Toni, Kathy and George.

The forecast for the day was not looking good.  All week it was calling for lightening and thunder showers today.  In the end it didn’t thunder or lightening, but it did rain.  It started out just spitting, but for a few holes it was really pouring.  We still had fun and were playing pretty well.  We started the shotgun on the first hole, and were sitting at 5 under par when they called the tournament just as we were teeing off on the 14th hole.  On top of sitting under par, George won the ladies’ longest drive and I won the ladies’ closest to the pin, so our group cleaned up on the contest holes.  It had actually stopped raining when they called us in.  Apparently it was the course that called it, not the tournament organizers.  The course gave everyone a rain check for a full 18 holes + cart for anytime this season.  Not too bad.  The girls are going to try to find a day when we can get back out there and use the rain check.

Dinner was included with the tournament entry fee, and it was fantastic!  BBQ’d chicken & ribs, veggies, roasted potatoes, a variety of salads, and some pretty tasty desserts!  I”m not sure how “clean” a lot of this was, especially the desserts, but it sure was good!  The 2 beer I enjoyed on the course weren’t too “clean” either, but they were pretty good too!  I’m sure if the weather had been nicer, there would have been a few more cold ones consumed out there!

I’ve got 2 golf days coming up this week.  It’s our “Meet the Member Night” for my EWGA golf league on Tuesday.  We’ve got a shotgun start for 9 holes and then a nice sit down dinner in the clubhouse after where will give out some prizes and officially welcome our new members to the league.  The weather for this event is looking good so far, so hopefully that forecast sticks.

Wednesday afternoon I’m golfing at Ballantrae with my boss and 2 other colleagues from work as a practice round for a tournament we are playing in on July 5.  Weather for Wednesday is also looking good.  🙂

It’s back to the grind tomorrow.  Lots to do at work, but some golf in there too will make it all just a bit more bearable.  Plus next weekend is the Canada Day Long Weekend, so looking forward to that!

Hope you all had a good weekend.  Here’s hoping the week ahead flies by!
