Another Monday Bites The Dust

Although today was a pretty good day, I’m glad it’s over.  Monday really is my least favourite day of the week.  Mondays mean the end of the weekend, back to work, back to hectic schedules, and back to the real world.

The best part of today was that I had a massage after work.  I looked forward to it all day.  I didn’t have any specific ailments that I needed worked on, just overall achiness all over from my killer CrossFit workouts.  At least that what I thought…until my therapist started working on me…then all sorts of intense aches came to the surface.  My right calf, my left shoulder to name just a few.  I thoroughly enjoyed my peaceful (and somewhat painful) hour and left her office very relaxed.  Nothing beats a good massage!  I feel ready to face the rest of my busy week.

But, before I get to my week ahead, let’s take a look back at a few things.

My cleanse:  The cleanse is actually going quite well.  For the most part, I am managing to stick fairly close to the plan.  I had a bit of a less than perfect day on Saturday, but got right back on track Sunday. 

Saturday started with a 9am CrossFit class.  We worked on overhead squats and this time I got to 45lbs.  I’m sure once i get used to the technique of the lift, I will be able to lift more, but for now, 45lbs seems to be where I max out.  I really wish I could lift more, but that will come.  (It will, won’t it?) After the strength training, it was onto the WOD:

12 Minute AMRAP
8 ring dips
12 kettlebell swings (I used the blue bell)
14 jump lunges (7 each side)

I made some good progress on this WOD.  Normally I use a purple band for the ring dips.  Saturday, I took a step and tried them with the black band…and you know what…I did it!  Wohoo!  It was a small step, but I was pretty pleased to be able to drop down to the black band.  In the end, I made it through 5 full rounds, plus one more round of the dips, the kettlebell swings and 4 jump lunges.  Not great, but not too bad.  I was also told by my coach that I am no longer allowed to use the blue bell…I have graduated to yellow!  Saturday was a big day at CrossFit for me!  Can’t wait to get back to the box on Wednesday to see what other progress I can make!

After my WOD, I came home, showered up and took my measurements for Day 11 of my Isagenix 30 Day Cleanse.  I was pretty sure I would see some changes in my numbers, since my clothes are fitting better.  Anyways, the scale showed a drop of 8lbs – yep, 8lbs in 11 days! I thought that was pretty good.  And them I did my measurements.  In total I lost 12 inches!!!!  Can you believe that!  It was a little bit everywhere, with the biggest changes being 1.5 inches on my waist, 2 on my chest, 2 on my abdomen, and 2 from each leg on the “upper knee”.    All of this makes me pretty happy.  It also gives me the motivation to keep going with the cleanse and sticking to it as closely as I can for the remaining 17 days.

Saturday was a gorgeous day, with nice warm temperatures.  My sister and her little ones came over for the afternoon and to have a BBQ dinner.  I did cheat a little on my cleanse and had a nice cold Corona while we sat on the deck in the backyard and enjoyed the sunshine.  It was delicious and I didn’t feel guilty about it at all! 

Dinner was delicious steak, grilled veggies, and a cucumber salad.  You will have to trust me that dinner was great, because I was so excited to eat that I forgot to take a picture!  I did take a picture of the delicious salad I made with the leftovers the next day:

Sunday was another beautiful day, and hubs, Jacko and I hit the driving range.  In typical golf fashion, there was some good, some bad, and some really ugly!  I’m glad I made it out, since I’m pretty sure that will be the only practice I get before my league starts next Tuesday.  It was also nice to get out with my son.  He tells me he doesn’t like golf, but loves the driving range.  Hopefully we can change that, so we can get out to golf together this summer, but for now, I will enjoy my time at the range with him.  He’s got a pretty good swing.

Wednesday:  7pm Jacko ball hockey, 8:30 CrossFit, 10pm my ball hockey
Thursday:  6:30 EWGA Board of Directors meeting, 8:30 CrossFit
Friday:  5:30pm CrossFit
Saturday: 9-5:30 Scrapbooking with my sister at National Scrapbook Day.  Can’t wait!

Since my week is so busy, and I have so many things in early evening hours, I will be having my shakes for breakfast and dinner this week and eating my 400-600 calorie meals at lunch.  I’ve got steak salad planned for Wednesday and leftover Sante Fe Chicken for Thursday and Friday.  There was lots of the crock pot chicken dish left last week, so I froze it for exactly this purpose.  I’m all set for delicious, clean meals when needed! 

With my busy week, it was hard for me to find a day to do my cleanse day.  I finally decided to do it tomorrow, so I will only be drinking cleanse juice and eating Isagenix snacks. I may try one of the Energetix powders to make an energy drink to help me make it through my ball hockey game.  Fingers crossed!

Now I need to get to bed.  I have been doing fairly well with trying to get more sleep. I have been sleeping like a rock and wake up ready to get on with the day.  So, with that said, I’m off!

Working Towards A Cleaner Me

As you know, I have been trying to eat clean for the past year.  For the most part, I have been successful and clean eating has become a part of my everyday lifestyle.  Of course, over the year there have been a few less than perfect days and even weeks, but overall I am quite happy with my clean eating.

In February I changed up my workout routine by joining CrossFit.  Every WOD is different and all of them challenge me and push my limits.  There are days when I am as scared as hell to walk in the Box, but once the workout starts, I am totally focused and have pushed myself to do things I really didn’t think I could do. I am getting better at the moves/lifts and getting stronger every day.  I still have a long way to go, and I look forward to pushing myself every time I walk in the Box.

Despite eating (fairly) well, and working out, I have not been seeing the changes in my body shape or the numbers of the scale that I was hoping for.  I’m not hung up about the scale, but I have been working hard and it would be nice to “see” some results.  I will admit that my clothes are fitting better, so things are changing.  The changes just seem to be really slow.

I’m pretty sure this lag in results is due to the times when I cave to my cravings or just get lazy and eat crap.  I can feel when I don’t eat well.  I have less energy and don’t sleep well. 

To give things a little kick, I decided to do a 30 day cleanse.  My sister recommended it.  She was doing it and was feeling great and she thought it would be a good thing for me to try.  So, for 30 days I’m doing the Isagenix 30 Day Cleanse and Fat Burning System.

I started a little over a week ago.  My schedule has been as follows:

Most days, my Breakfast and Lunch are meal replacement protein shakes:

I’ve been mixing 1 scoop of vanilla with 1 scoop of chocolate since I’ve been told the chocolate is a little strong on it’s own.  At first I wasn’t too crazy about the taste of the shakes, but once I started adding a few more ice cubes, and the shakes were nice and thick, creamy and cold, they are actually pretty good.  I’m also happy to say that they keep me satisfied until it’s time for a snack.

There are a few snack options within the cleanse program.

IsaDelights are green tea infused chocolates.  They are actually pretty good.  IsaSnacks, which they refer to as chocolate wafers, seem almost like compressed shake powder.  They took me a little while to get used to, but they are okay and seem to do the job and fill me up between shakes.  They sent along a sample pack with my cleanse which included 3 bars.  I haven’t tried any of the bars yet, but I’m told they are pretty good. 

Each shake day, before breakfast, I take a scoop of “Ionix Supreme” mixed with a little water.  This is supposed to help your body deal with stress, while supporting “mental and physical performance”.  I find this little concoction a little sweet, but it’s an easy chug, so over fairly quickly!

On shake days, I’m allowed one 400-600 calorie meal.  Most days I use this for dinner and my clean eating meals are fitting within the calorie allowance perfectly.  I look forward to my dinners every day. 

For four days during the 30 day cleanse period – I am doing one day each week – we are supposed to do “cleanse” days.  These are days when no “real” food is consumed, but cleansing juice is drank throughout the day.

On cleanse days the schedule has be eating/drinking something every few hours.  I start with 4oz of the cleanse juice (which tastes pretty good…very berry-like), then a few hours later I have 2 IsaDelight chocolates and a couple of snack wafers.  Then it alternates between cleanse juice and snacks throughout the day.  I just did my second cleanse day today.  I thought I would be very hungry on cleanse days, but surprisingly, I’m actually not that hungry.  Most of the time, when I do start feeling hungry, it is time for my next shake, snack, or juice drink. 

A few more things came with the cleanse, but I haven’t used them yet:

The one on the left is some sort of energy shot.  I have two of these, but I’m a bit nervous to take them.  I’ve never tried an energy drink of any kind before, let alone an energy shot.  If I have a very busy day coming up, I might try it, but I doubt it.  The sticks on the right are sort of like powdered Gatorade-type thing.  4 of these came with the cleanse and 1 more in the sample pack, so I’ve got 5 to use in total.  I will probably use these at some point on days that I have CrossFit for just a little extra energy, because God knows I need all the energy I can muster on CrossFit days!

That pretty much sums it up.  My first 9 days have been pretty good.  I took photos (which will likely not be shared) and measurements before I started.  I’m due to take my second set of measurements on day 11.  I’m looking forward to see if I’ve lost any inches to go along with the weight loss.  I’m pretty sure I will see some progress there…workout pants that I bought just 2 weeks ago are now too big in the waist and I have to pull them up when I’m doing burpees or box jumps.  Good thing they were cheap Joe Fresh pants and not expensive Lululemon pants!  Maybe at the end of all of this I will finally treat myself to a Lulu outfit! 

Tonight turned out to be an unscheduled night at home for me.  We were supposed to go see the school play at my older son’s school, but he didn’t want to stay.  He’d had a long day and just wanted to come home.  I was a little disappointed to not get to see the play, but I was excited to have a free night at home.  With my busy schedule, I don’t get many free nights.  Tomorrow is another free night, but then I’m back to the Box for a 9am CrossFit class on Saturday morning.  I’m looking forward to seeing what the WOD will be and then heading to Google to see what all the moves/lifts involve. 

Tomorrow is Friday.  Fingers crossed the day flies by….come on weekend!

The Friday Five

Welcome to another edition of the Friday Five.

Here’s what’s shaking in my world!

1. I am super excited….the new season of Californication starts Sunday!   I love David Duchovny, who plays Hank Moody, the main character. When we last saw Hank, his crazy ex-girlfriend had just drugged him and left him for dead.  Can’t wait to see how he gets out of that one!

2.  I am taking today as a workout rest day.  I have worked out every day in January (with the exception of New Year’s day) and I am tired and achy.  Plus, I think my muscles deserve a break.  They have been working hard the last 10 days!

3.  I am loving my Polar FT40 Heart Rate monitor.  It is easy to use and comfortable to wear….both watch and monitor strap.  I love knowing how many calories I have burned doing a workout.

I am going to have to read the manual or look up some instructions online as to how to get more out of it.  I’ve seen other people’s pictures with some interesting screens – showing whether it is fitness or fat burning heart rate zones, and something called effect…which I think is how many calories you burn after your workout.  Hopefully I will get a chance sometime this weekend to do some investigation and figure out how to use this super cool thing!

4.  I love KenKen puzzles.  At work, we get the Globe & Mail newspaper and one of my colleagues every day, will make a copy of the puzzle page with the cryptic crossword, the Sudoku, and the KenKen.  I used to just to the Sudoku (once I finally figured out how to do them!), but just recently I started to give the KenKen a try.  kenkenTo solve a KenKen, each row and each column will contain the numbers 1 to 6 without repeating.  The numbers within the heavily outlined boxes (cages) combine using the operation given, in any order, to the target number in the cage.  Freebies are the single box cells where the number to be put in the cell is given.

For the longest time, I could not figure out how to solve these things.  Now that I have figured out how to solve these puzzles, I am addicted!  I love these stupid little puzzles.  I actually had a really big stack of old Sudoku puzzles that have built up since I was too busy to actually do the Sudoku, and now I’ve gone through them all and finished the KenKen.  It is a quick, fun, nice little mental challenge…and I’m hooked.  If you’ve never done one, give them a try.  Apparently they are good exercise for your brain!  Check out www.kenken.com for some tips and tons of puzzles.

5.  I am getting tired of water.  I have given up drinking diet pop as part of my January goals.  So far, any time I want a pop, I have a glass of water.  I’ve been drinking a ton of water..not just to replace my pop, but drinking lots in general.  All of this water is starting to get a bit dull.  I’m getting a little lot tired of water.  I’ve put some Mio in it a couple of times to give it a bit of flavour, but I think I need to find some other substitutes.  I am going to look into some sort of club soda drink or maybe some flavoured Perrier or something.  Anything to keep me hydrated and off the diet pop.

I’m Meatless for Elf4Health

Today was Day 1 of the Elf for Health Challenge.  Our first challenge was to go meatless.  I don’t think I have ever purposefully gone a full day without meat.  I’ve had meals that didn’t have meat, but never on purpose for a full day.  Despite not really being to organized today, I managed to have 3 meatless – and quite tasty – meals.

Breakfast:  Home made Bagelwich:  toasted bagel, 2 eggs microwave scrambled, and a slice of low-fat sharp cheddar. 

Lunch:  I was not really sure what I was going to do for lunch.  I didn’t have any meatless leftovers so would either have to go out (which I didn’t want to do, since I only let myself go out for lunch once a week now…didn’t want to use it up on Monday), or find something meatless at the office.  I was just about to have a chicken noodle soup, when I noticed I had a couple of Indian meals in my office.  So, in the end, I had a delicious bowl of Matter Paneer, which is Indian curried peas and cheese.

Dinner:  Last night when I was emailing my Elf4Health partner I wanted to include a meatless recipe for her.  I was flipping through my Clean Eating recipes looking for meatless recipes and came across a pasta dish that I had made earlier this year.  Once I saw it again, I knew this was going to be the recipe I shared, and that I was going to make it tonight for dinner.  The recipe was Mediterranean Veg & White Bean Pasta, and it was just as good as I remember it.  Maybe even better since hubs prepared it while I did my Bob Harper workout.

And check that out…3 awesome leftover meals!  I can’t wait for lunch tomorrow!!!

I got back on track with my workouts tonight.  When I got home from work, I REALLY didn’t much feel like doing a workout, but I changed into my workout gear and picked my workout.  I haven’t signed up with BobHaper.com yet, so I just did one of the workouts that I had printed out from last week’s circuits.  It was a cardio workout, and once again, after a quick 20 minute workout, I was dripping.  Doing the workout just reinforced that I should sign up for at least another month of BobHarper.com.  These workouts are quick and they really work.  I’m noticing changes in my shape, I feel stronger, and I can always find 20-30 minutes to do these workouts.  Hopefully I will get a chance to sigh up tomorrow. 

Tomorrow’s Elf for Health challenge is to send a friend a handwritten note.  I do not remember the last time I wrote a letter or note.  I do always try to write a little message to each of our friends when we send out our Christmas Letter, but that’s probably the extent of my note writing these days.  I’ll have to put a little thought into who I’ll write to. 

All in all, today was a pretty good day.  Hopefully the rest of the week goes just as well.

Rest day = Hockey Day

Happy Thursday, everyone.  We are so close to the weekend, I can almost smell it!

Today was another good food day for me.  I had 3 clean meals:  Hashbrown, Sausage & Egg Muffins for breakfast, more leftover African Stew for lunch, and more Hashbrown, Sausage & Egg Muffins for dinner.  I also had 2 clean snacks – a pomegranate-apple sauce and my last Dark Chocolate Date bar. 

Today was a rest day in my Mamavation Bob Harper Challenge, but that didn’t mean I got the day off!  Thursday is my hockey night.  It was another win for the Corona Crushers!  I had a good skate and some good laughs…and we won!  All in all, a good night!

When I got home, I watched a couple of shows I PVR’d tonight – The Big Bang Theory and Grey’s Anatomy.  Big Bang just makes me laugh.  Sheldon kills me!  While I was watching my shows, I tried out some Tazo Chai Tea that I picked up at the grocery store last weekend.

This is the same stuff you can buy at Starbucks.  I had it once before when a friend made it for me, but this is the first time I’ve made it myself.  It is sooooo good!  And so much cheaper than going to Starbucks, and has much fewer calories and sugar than a Grande Chai Latte at Starbucks.

A half cup of the chai concentrate and a half cup of skim milk comes to about 113 calories.  Not too bad,

An now, as always seems to happen, it is very late and I need to get to bed.  I think I should have made getting more sleep one of my goals for November!

Terrific Tuesday

Well, I have to say this was a pretty good Tuesday!

I had 3 perfectly clean meals, and didn’t have to cook a thing! That’s the beauty of leftovers!

Breakfast was 2 Hash brown, Sausage & Egg Muffins.  These little guys are quite tasty and only 105 calories per muffin.  A minute or so to reheat in the microwave and I was good to go.

Lunch, and dinner too, was leftover African Peanut Stew.  This stuff is good and I did not mind one bit that I had it twice today.

Added to my food for the day was a peach yogurt and a Dark Chocolate Date Bar.  Everything I ate today was clean…and totally delicious! 

Today was another circuit day in the Mamavation Bob Harper Workout Challenge.  Today’s workout was called “Lower Body Burn II”. This was a very appropriately named workout because my legs were burning by the end of it!  The workout included skaters, hops, squats, dead lifts, cross-back lunges, and leg lifts. Once again, I was totally amazed at how hard I was working and how sweaty I got working out for just 15-20 minutes.  These are some short, but intense workouts….and I’m LOVING them.  I can’t wait to see what Bob’s got lined up for me tomorrow!

Food, food, food!

Normally, I am not a big fan of Mondays. It’s back to work, back to being rushed in the morning and after work, and just trying to fit everything in. Today, however, was a FANTASTIC Monday!

I had a great day food wise. I was 3 for 3 on clean eating. I had a clean breakfast of Chocolate Date Bars – so yummy! Lunch was leftover African Peanut Stew – absolutely delicious! Dinner was another new Clean Eating magazine recipe – Corn Bread topped Beef & Black Bean Chili.

This was a fun recipe. Basically you make the chili, and then you drop the corn bread batter on top of the chili and bake it in the oven. This was another delicious recipe…and produced 4 more leftover meals. I love clean cooking!!!

One other bonus about this recipe, while the corn bread was cooking, I had 35 minutes. This was just enough time to squeeze in today’s Mamavation Bob Harper workout. Today’s workout was a brief warm up, then 9 different moves for one minute, as many reps as possible, and a cool down. The AMRAP minutes included squats, punches, dead lifts, burpees, upright rows, reverse flies, and a few more things that I can’t remember right now. When I saw this on the schedule for today, I thought 9 minutes no problem. Well, let me tell you they were 9 tough minutes! Once again, I got my heart rate up and was dripping with sweat at the end of the workout…and I finished up just as the timer on the stove went off to top the corn bread with some cheddar!

After I packed away the 4 leftover meals, I figured I would make my Clean breakfasts that I had on my meal plan for the week. So, I got out my grater, shredded some potatoes, whisked up some eggs, grated some Swiss cheese, sautéed up some turkey sausage, and voila! Clean breakfast for the week!

Although all of those meals are awesome, the best part of my Monday was that I got an iPhone 5! Check out this beauty!

Ignore the protective plastic that is still on it, this pic was taken when I first got it. I haven’t had a chance yet to get it fully set up yet. I’ve got my email on it, but it needs an iOS update and then I need to sync with iTunes and get my music and contacts loaded onto it. I also need to hit the App Store and load this bad boy up with all the things that make iPhone so cool!

After such a great Monday, I’m excited to see how Tuesday measures up!

Goodbye Weekend

The weekend is almost over. It’s been a pretty good weekend, and despite having nothing to do, I got quite a bit done! 

Today was a rest day in the Mamavation Bob Harper Challenge.  This was a good thing, since my arms and shoulders are pretty achy from yesterday’s video workout, and my legs finally don’t hurt anymore from last Monday’s leg day.  I’m both excited and nervous to see what’s on tap for tomorrow.  It will be some kind of circuit, and I’m sure it will get my heart rate pumping and the sweat flowing.  I’m really enjoying this challenge and the Bob Harper workouts.  I’m considering signing up for the Bob Harper program after the challenge is over.  At only $9.95 a month, it seems like a pretty good deal.  I think the challenge only got us 2 weeks of free access to Bob’s site. so I’ll see how I feel this time next week and make my decision then.

I did some research into food processors.  I remember reading that Tosco Reno (the Queen of Clean Eating) got a food processor for Mother’s Day this year.  I figure if a food processor is good enough for her, it should be good enough for me!  I finally found the reference to the food processor on her Facebook page.  It’s is a Cuisinart Elite Collection 12 cup Food Processor. 

cuisinart elite 12 cupThey sell them at Sears, Home Outfitters, Kitchen Stuff Plus, and Canadian Tire also has them.  They are not the same price everywhere.  Unfortunately Sears is the most expensive, but that is where I have about $600 of free money to use, through my Sears Points.  So, even though it’s a little bit more there, that’s likely where I will get it since it will be free when I use my points.  I will try to go over to Sears at lunch one day this week and see if I can find out when they will be on sale, and if it’s close, wait until then to make my purchase.  I’m pretty sure I can get by for a few more weeks or a month without a new food processor. 

Today I planned out my menu for the week and then hit the grocery store to get all the needed items for a week of clean eating.

The Hashbrown,Sausage & Egg Muffins look great and will be good as a quick grab in the morning for taking to work for a clean breakfast…which is one of my November goals.  I was hoping to make them tonight, but just didn’t quite get to it, so hopefully I will get to them tomorrow.

For dinner tonight, I made the African Peanut Stew.  This was a relatively easy recipe to follow…just a bit of chopping.  Onions, sweet potatoes, chopped tomatoes, and Swiss Chard are the main ingredients of the soup.  Vegetable broth provides the liquid and peanut butter, curry, ginger, garlic,and jalapenos give it the amazing flavour.  The house smelled amazing when it was cooking. As good as the house smelled, the stew tasted even better.  This was yet another hit recipe. 

african peanut stewIn true Clean Eating fashion, this dish had LOTS of leftovers.  I’ve got 7 (yes, 7!!!) meals all set to take to work for lunch or ready for a quick meal on a hectic night.

For November, I’m taking part in a Fit Photo-A-Day challenge hosted by Sarah of Ingredients Of  A Fit Chick and Aundra of Chestertown Fit For Life.  I’ve been having a bit of fun with it, and using Instagram for the first time. I’m still trying to figure that whole thing out.  Today’s photo word is “mat”.  So, when I sign off from here I will be heading up to take a picture of my yoga mat. Since starting my Bob Harper workouts, that yoga mat is finally getting some use when I do my stretches after my workout, rather than being rolled up and just sitting in the corner of my bedroom.

Well…another weekend is over.  It’s too bad they aren’t longer.  Oh well, 5 short days and we will once again be in weekend mode!

It’s kind of sad how happy Friday’s make me!  Work has been an absolute zoo for me for so long, I actually don’t remember when it wasn’t crazy.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my job.  I work on interesting projects all day and have wonderful clients to deal with.  But let me tell you, by the time Friday gets here I am so happy to know that for 2 days I don’t have to think about document edits, report writing, field management, or anything relating to my work life.  After work tonight I can’t wait to build a fire, curl up on the couch, and maybe watch a movie or catch up on some shows on PVR.   I think the Cure said it best:

2.  It is Day 5 of Mamavation’s 2 week Workout Challenge with Bob Harper.  Today’s workout is called “The Fighter:  Boxing-Inspired Cardio”.  When I got home from work I really didn’t feel like working out.  I really wanted to have a nap.  But, I did the right thing and changed into my workout gear and got my program all set up.  Once again, the cat was quite helpful.  Tonight he obviously thought that the pages of the program were tormenting him, so he needed to show them who was the boss and shred my pages.

With the help of my assistant, I made my way through the program.  There were no weights involved today, just a lot of kickboxing moves that got my blood pumping and the sweat flowing.  Despite not really wanting to do the workout, I was glad that I did.  Now I can sit of the couch tonight and watch TV totally guilt free.  At some point I need to sneak in 30 burpees for the evil Halloween treats I ate today.  I wish my kids would just eat them and they can be gone.  I’ve been pretty good, but I can only walk by without reaching into the goody bowl so many times.

3.  So far I am doing well sticking to my November goals.  I am quite aware that November is only 2 days old at this point, but it’s important to get off to a good start.  Today for breakfast I had oatmeal with flax seed and a squirt of honey…nice and clean.  I brought lunch to work today and enjoyed some clean leftovers of apple ginger butternut squash and 1/2 pork chop.  I’m looking forward to breakfasts on the weekend when I have a bit more time and can make an oatmeal pancake or maybe try one of Bob’s good looking breakfast recipes.

4.  I tried a new recipe tonight:  Dark Chocolate Date Bars.  This is a recipe that Alex, over at Wholesome Living, created.  What caught my eye about this recipe was that I actually had all of the ingredients needed in my house.  I’ve been wanting to make them for a while, but didn’t get a chance until earlier tonight.  I got out my food processor and started working my way through the recipe.  All was going well until I needed to chop the dates in the food processor.  My food processor is a tiny little one and I hate it.  Using it tonight just reminded me how much I hate it.  It’s too small to really be useful and it is almost impossible to get the blade our to get the bowl off the machine.  Anyways, I throw my cup and a half of dates into the processor and soon hear some crazy knocking sound.  I’ve never used dates in a recipe before…turns out they have pits in them!  After digging out all the pits, things went a bit smoother.  I was eventually able to get everything into the processor bowl and tried to blend it all up.  This didn’t work too well since the processor wasn’t really strong enough to blend all the stuff.  I eventually wrestled with it enough and got the dough out of the bowl, but not before I cut my finger trying to get the blade out.  Did I mention how much I hater this food processor?  After a few choice words with my food processor, the bars were ready to hit the fridge to chill for an hour or so.

I just did a taste test…and OH. MY. GOD!!!  These things are AMAZING!  Chocolately, chewy, deliciousness.  I will definitely be making these again.  Guess I need to get a new food processor before then!  I’ve got a ton of Sears point that I can cash in.  Maybe I should go over and see what they’ve got in the way of food processors this weekend.

5.  Other than a few kid’s hockey games, I have nothing to do this weekend….and I can’t wait to do it!  After a month or so of fairly busy weekends, I am looking forward to not doing much of anything this weekend.  We may even do something crazy and go out for dinner without the kids!  Insanity, I know!  And one more bonus for this weekend…we get an extra hour of sleep Saturday night when the clocks turn back.  You have no idea how excited I am about that.   Sleep is something that I never seem to get enough.  Hockey times are decent (10am Saturday and 11am Sunday) so there is good potential for 2 fantastic sleep-ins in a row!  Unheard of.  Hopefully I will be able to sleep.  I don’t seem to be able to sleep in like I used to when I was younger, but I’m going to give it my best shot!

Over the weekend I will also be checking my Trainer Bob program to see what’s on the schedule for the weekend.  I think one day I will get a rest day and the other day there will be another “live” video to follow along with.  I’m actually looking forward to see what Bob has in store for us.  Each workout has been different, challenging, quick and fun.  Hopefully this next video will be all of those things as well.  I’ll let you know.

Now, it’s time for me put on my comfies and curl up in front of the fire.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Hump Day, everyone…we are easing ever closer to the weekend!

Today is Halloween, which is fun…but killer for those of us trying to watch what we eat.  Those damn mini chocolate bars are the devil.  Normally I hand out candy and munch away on those chocolate treats all night.  This year, I’m not sure what’s up, but I have only had 2 treats.  I had a pack of mini M&M peanuts on my way to my sister’s house to hand out candy so she could take her little ones out for trick-or-treating, and I had a mini Kit Kat after I had my post workout shower.  I am following the #EarnedMyTreat Halloween Burpee Challenge, so before I go to bed, I need to do 20 burpees.  I love chocolate, but I hate burpees…maybe that’s why I only had 2 treats tonight instead of my usual 10+ in previous years??  Who knows, but I’m okay with that.

Tonight I did my Mamavation workout of the day.  Today Bob Harper led us through a 5 minute workout.  Yah, 5 minutes my ass!  It was actually 5 minutes per exercise and 3 exercises.  The first exercise was Kettle Bell Swings.  He wanted us to do a certain number of swings within a minute.  If you finish before the minute is up, you get the remainder of the minute to rest before the next minute starts.  I don’t own a kettle bell, but Bob said we could use a dumbbell in it’s place if we didn’t have one.  So, I picked up my select tec dumbbell and started swinging.  I’ve never done this type of exercise before.  It was hard work to get to the magic number each minute, but it was fun and it definitely got my heart rate up.  Next up was the same deal, five 1 minute sets of lunges.  I’m not crazy about lunges, since they make my knee tweak a bit.  I just took my time and made sure that my form was perfect and my knee didn’t feel to bad.  I could tell if my form got sloppy because my knee would let me know.  Better to do it right and pain free than to rush, get sloppy and hurt.  The final set was of high knee tuck jumps.  These bad boys are tough, but fun!  Once again, I had an awesome workout. I was sweating like mad again too.  I’m loving these Trainer Bob workouts!  Can’t wait to see what’s on tap tomorrow!  BTW….I’m still feeling my legs from Monday’s workout.  Can’t wait to see how all those lunges and jumps make my legs feel tomorrow!

After my workout, and a quick shower, it was time to roast all of the seeds we got out of the 4 pumpkins we carved.  I love roasted pumpkin seeds…and they are a much healthier snack than those damn mini chocolate bards.  I got two big tubs of seeds.  I am definitely taking some to work to snack on tomorrow.

Well, it’s late again, and I need to go to bed…but first i need to do 30 burpees…yep…enjoyed mini Herhsey with almonds bar while I was writing this blog.  Ugh…
