My Pursuit of Happiness and Skinny Jeans

My journey to a smaller jean size

Countdown to Race Day: 12

on October 9, 2012

After a lovely long weekend up at the cottage, it was back to work and back to reality today.  It was also back to my training schedule after a rest day yesterday.

My tempo runs have been getting bumped lately due to hockey, so I decided for the last two weeks of training, that I would move my tempo run from Thursdays to Tuesdays, in the hopes of getting a couple more in before race day.

So, it was home from work and straight into my run gear for me tonight.  It was nice to head out the door with just my iPod and my Garmin.  Since it was only going to be a quick run, I didn’t need to load up my fuel belt.  It felt nice to just hit the road without carrying any extra weight.  It’s been a while since I’ve run without my fuel belt since I take it on all long runs and also bring it with me when I do my speed and hill work.

Anyways, I was out the door and onto my route and felt pretty good.  I was moving at a good clip (for me!), and felt like I was running smoothly.  I wasn’t really pushing it, just running and when I looked at Garmin was pleasantly surprised to see that I was running under 6 min/km for the first few kilometres.  I wasn’t able to keep up that crazy pace, and slowed down a bit for the second half of the run, but still managed a pretty good average pace…my fastest yet.

5 k tempo

I know 6:24/km is not breaking any land speed records…but you have to remember…I’m slow!  6:24 is unheard of for me. It just about killed me, but I did it!  After the run, I spent some quality minutes with my foam roller.  My calves, especially the left one, were very tight on my run tonight.  I may have to see if I can find some different stretches to do for my calves since the few that I am doing now are obviously not enough!

Tomorrow night my sister and I will be doing some more speed intervals.  I am not really looking forward to them…they are hard…but they are supposed to be great for training, so we will do them.  We’ve got 5×400 sprints to complete.  I’ll let you know how it goes.

I was poking around Google images, looking for a nice run picture, and I stumbled upon this one…it just made me laugh.  It is so true!  I’m obsessed with my Garmin.

I usually run about the same pace. Some days it feels slow and other days I feel very speedy (especially going down hills!) We may never be first, but we won’t be last either! Keep up the good work!

my goal for every race is to finish, and not be last. I’ve come close running some smaller races, but so far have managed to not be last!
